Sunrise

I love vacation, because everything is different.  Like bedtimes, rising times, food, roads, the scenery . . .

This is just before sunrise at my sister’s house in the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk Bay.  I popped my head up, took this shot, and then went back to sleep.  Because it happened at 5:15am her time, which is 3:15am my time . . .

I absolutely love the ocean! It’s what I miss most about living in Colorado.  So almost every time I go on vacation, I go to some shore someplace.  Like Cape Cod, or Maine, or California. Or Vancouver Island, or Oregon or the Jersey Shore. Or New Zealand or Scotland or India . . . Anywhere, as long as there is an ocean.  Like Hawaii, or Kitty Hawk . . .

Is there a lesson here someplace?  I think there should be, but since I’m on vacation, I’m not teaching anything. Except maybe very loosely, and that is that change is good.  Broadens your perspective, moves you out of your comfort zone, and as long as you keep an open mind, it can be very refreshing.

Some day I might tell you about Friday evening, when we landed in DC at 12:30am and then took an impromptu night time tour past the memorials from 1:30-3:15am before heading on down to the Outer Banks.

I wasn’t planning on that. In fact, I had printed maps and reviewed them several times to make sure we made a straight shot from Dulles to Norfolk in our rental car.  Must have missed a sign somewhere in all the construction . . .

Two police car stops (for directions) and three trips past the Washington Memorial from all different angles were not things I was planning on, but they will always be memorable, and I tried to keep my cool even though I was tired and it was not what I’d planned.

We’ll go back to Washington at the end of our trip and take a tour, with someone else doing the driving.  Gotta go now.  Looks like we’ll be putting a boat in the water soon and sailing around the island . . .
