Chicks! Three Weeks!

Those chicks are a growin!  They seem to be entering the scraggly stage. Here’s Nori and Sakura at 3 weeks old . . .

Bantams are purchased as straight run.  Which means that there’s a 50% chance each is a girl or a guy. You might notice that Sakura (right) has a strip of comb growing on (his?) head.  Early comb growth is an indicator that this chick might be a guy, but Nori (left) is not showing the same bit of comb, so I probably (hopefully) have one girl Japanese bantam.

And Blondie and Azul . . .

It has been nearly impossible for me to tell which silkies are guys and which are girls.  Blondie is bigger than the other bantams, so that may mean she’s a boy, only time, juvenile crows and newly laid eggs will tell.  Azul — I have no idea . . . but she/he is starting to get a comb . . . just hope it’s a demure girl comb and not a rooster in training comb . . .

Well, from looking at your pictures (since I bought them at rural king, with no date of birth listed) I would say that my chicks are about 3 weeks, with the older one about 6 six weeks… Thanks so much for putting pics on here..
