Think of the things that you have to take care of – your family, your belongings, yourself –as using units of your daily energy quota. You have a set amount of energy every day and you can decide for yourself where to spend your energy. The more you have in terms of clutter, the more energy you use keeping that clutter contained, moved, maintained, etc. Wouldn’t you rather spend that energy on yourself? When you do get rid of things, you feel lighter, more energized. You may have more time, even freedom from worrying about things that you never have the time to take care of. You may now have time for more activities, projects, because the energy and space has been freed up!
